"read more" didn't show up on a long post of pictures

I came across https://cohost.org/wingedcatgirl/post/4549136-it-s-been-a-hot-seco in my bookmarked tags feed, and got blasted with tens of enormous pictures that took minutes to load rather than a couple of pictures and then a "read more" link.
someone in the comments mentions seeing more pictures after clicking "read more", so this might be awkward to reproduce?
I'm using the PWA installed on a Pixel 6a (android, chrome 121.0.6167.178)
