post longevity

 Running a social media site gets expensive long term, from what I've heard. On the one hand, you have sites like reddit that every post will exist until the end of time. On the other hand, you sites like sigh 4chan that get around it by making all posts temporary. I was thinking, from a design perspective, why not do a hybrid? Posts have a set lifespan unless they're marked as liked by someone, at which point, THEN they stick around forever?
