Make lightbox images bigger by getting rid of thumbnail navigation on multiple-image posts, implement swipe and edge clicking

The current lightbox setup makes images way too small. The thumbnail navigation on desktop eats almost a third of the screen and scrunches the actual image, while on mobile the egg-shaped navigation arrows make them too small to even be readable. My suggestions would be for desktop, let users click the right or left edges of the page and get rid of the thumbnails completely, and on mobile, take away the arrows and let users swipe.
