Optionally default to "save draft" instead of "post now"

Occasionally I manage to click on "post now" while halfway through writing a post, intending to save it to my drafts, and then have to notice my mistake and decide whether to hastily pull it down or just leave it like that. My personal workflow involves saving almost every post to drafts before posting it, but the combination of having to remember to use the dropdown menu to change what the button does and the dropdown being small compared to the button makes this more difficult. It'd be nice to be able to set the default to saving a draft, to make it easier to do that and harder to accidentally publish posts.
