Ability to mark notifications as read / clean up notifications

Once again here with the bad memory; l've used the site for a bit now and notifs are fairly annoyinh to use for me, as they just stick around indefinitely and l can't really tell which ones are new and which have been there for a while.
Some kind of "clear all notifs" button or an event that wipes a notif once you click it would be nice to have.

Maybe they ought to color the 'new' notifications' boxes with something other than white in order to distinguish them
